Denham & Monkey Mia Attractions

Monkey Mia Dolphins
Located just 25kms north east of Denham is world famous Monkey Mia. Home for a family of seven dolphins that interact most days with the visitors that travel many kilometres to meet them. As the bottle nose dolphins are wild animals, they tend to choose their own time to visit, however they normally show up 3 times a day.
CALM has developed a management program that ensures the dolphins safety and well being is priority number 1 and that they arent reliant on humans for their sole food supply.

Dirk Hartog Island
Discovered in 1616 by Captain Dirk Hartog, Dirk Hartog Island is the largest island in Western Australia.Eco tours to the island can be arranged in season to view the wildflowers and the native bird life. Fishing tours are also available. Dirk Hartog Island is two hours from the mainland by boat

Eagle Bluff
Located 20kms south of Denham, Eagle Bluff is the home to ospreys. They apparently prefer high ground for observing the seascapes and the surrounds. A boardwalk has been erected along the bluffs edge and provides spectacular views of the Bay and even Useless Loop on a clear day.

Shell Beach
Located 45kms south of Denham, Shell Beach Conservation Park is unique by having a beach that is 120kms long and up to 10metres deep in tiny white shells. The shells were used in the construction of walls for buildings within the area. ( Old Pearler Restaurant ).

Nanga Bay
Nanga Bay is a working sheep station located 50kms south of Denham. At the station they have a number of features such as accommodation, restaurant and a small supermarket. Nanga Bay has a safe clean swimming beach, pool and an artesian spa !

Hamelin Pool Historic Telegraph Station & Stromatolites
A great stopover point, 41kms from the North West Coastal Highway turnoff on the way to Denham. Established in 1884, the Telegraph Station provides an insight into the history of the region. A short walk from the Telegraph Station are the Stromatolites. The world's oldest and largest living fossils. A 200metre boardwalk leads visitors over the Stromatolites and dont forget to take your camera to capture some magic pictures.

Little Lagoon
Little Lagoon is 3kms north of Denham and is ideal for picnics and fishing.The lagoon is fed by the sea via a tidal creek. During the wildflower season the purple coloured Shark Bay Daisy emerges through the taller shrubs. A prime location for numerous small bird and plant species.

Francois Peron National Park
North from Denham and accessible by 4WD vehicles ONLY. The Park has unique coastal scenery and unusual wildlife and vivid landscapes. Animals that can be found within the Park include racehorse goannas, euros, thick billed grass wrens, thorny devils and emus. From the cliffs it's possible to spot dugongs, manta rays, sharks, turtles and whales in season.

Steep Point
Sttep Point, Australia's most westerly point on the mainland is a popular fishing location. 4wd access only to this area and PLEASE bring your own drinking water and take your litter away when you leave. A ranger is in attendance at Steep Point.
