| Perth, Western Australia.....the "City of Lights"
In 1829 Capt James Stirling was looking for a picturesque site for the establishment of his city. Today over 1 million people enjoy the location that he chose on the banks of the Swan River, living in the beautiful city of Perth. The city centre itself looks over the Swan River, where the river widens to over 1 kilometre. Downstream closer to Fremantle the river widens to 3 kilometres with luxurious houses enjoying an aquatic playground both sides of the river. Perth which enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other city in Australia, coupled to the Mediterranean climate makes for a perfect setting for the enjoyment of outdoor activities. The Indian Ocean shoreline provides several excellent beaches ideal for families, surfers, fishing and even nature lovers! Just East of the city of Perth is the picturesque Darling Range, home of fine wines, boutique beers, and numerous other gourmet attractions. Australia’s oldest wine region and experienced winemakers have produced award winning wines at attractive prices. Perth’s centre is surrounded by parks and open spaces. King’s Park, which overlooks the city, is the states oldest natural reserve and has over 5 million visitors a year.
Until the 1960’s Perth had the air of a large country town but today due to a booming mining industry and ever increasing tourism growth, Perth now has a sky-scraper skyline and an economy to match. Add to that the natural friendly nature of the local people to a happening city that is fast earning a reputation for quality food, all year round high-profile events and you have a vibrant city waiting to be explored. Perth has retained a strong link to her historical past with many buildings now Heritage Listed and the port of Fremantle retaining much of the early day buildings built by convicts and early settlers. The city of Fremantle has earned a reputation as the world’s best-preserved example of a 19th century urban environment. Feedback on the website would be most appreciated.
